I've been feeling in a funk lately, well more like a lazy lump. I'm tired of working M-F and then coming home only to watch the telly. When will my own artwork get made? I've been a half-hearted weekend warrior and I'm tired of it! Life is short! The time is NOW! So, for 365 days I will make artwork everyday, no matter what, no excuses allowed.

Day 49. Update
So this weekend my husband and I are moving to a new apartment. We spent ALL day moving today and have tomorrow yet to go. I got the chance to edit some HPAC pics today, but I don't know what tomorrow will bring. Also Comf*c*stic is turning off our internet tomorrow sometime and won't be installing until Tuesday. So I'm not sure when I'll be able to make my posts, but I will try my hardest to get it done Sunday, Monday and Tuesday...Remember, no excuses! But we'll see...

Day 46. angel catches a ride
I kid you not, this afternoon I was looking out my window thinking of what artwork I could make, just looking hoping to become dumbstruck by an idea when wham! I saw it. A cloud in the shape of an angel hitching a ride on a cloud that looked like a bunny floating fast across the highway of sky.
While working I often ride a few different waves looking for the one that feels right, I just keep trying different options until I notice the right fit, but this time I just couldn't decide. I liked both. The top one seems more abstract, while the bottom is situated in a scene. Maybe you could tell me which one you like better or if you like both.
At any rate, I hope tonight I dream I'm the cloud angel hitching the ride from thumper...

Day 45. Dreamy Future with chicks
I found these drawings of the little chick and hen. They made me think of how much I want my own chickens for fresh eggs, and thinking of how much I want chicks made me think of how much I want a farmhouse near some woods. So this is a drawing of my dream future...
Day. 44. Distorting Waves

Here is the promised video from yesterday. See post below for more info.
Day 44. Wave Distortion
This exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry explains how waves distort, interesting but visually very striking. People probably thought there was something mentally slow with me as I stood around it with my mouth agape, hypnotized by the waves for nearly 15 minutes. I hope it gives you the same response.
Update: I've been waiting for vimeo to load my video for the past two hours...still waiting, so I think I'll have to upload the video I made today, tomorrow...thumbs down vimeo

Day 42. Refracting Light
Refracting Light from Katharine Lion on Vimeo.
Today I started editing a project of videos that were taken at the Museum of Science and Industry back in March. I want to call them Fun with Science but I don't think that really fits. Will work on a more comprehensive title...Psychotropic Science perhaps? This one originates from the example of refracting light in their newish exhibit, "Science Storms"

Day 41. Caught a moment in the park
The best moment of my day today was when I stopped in the park to talk on the phone and looked up to this beautiful scene, well not quite "this" scene but close enough.

Day 36. Rug Update
Well so my idea to make the rug go faster didn't work out, and my search for a loom hasn't worked out yet either, so in the meantime I'll continue my colorful and laborious method. not sure why there is a curve in the center and hope it works it way out.

Day 35. Lost in a sea of paperwork
I started this collage not this past summer, but the one previous. It was a real "old fashioned" collage, one made of paper that was cut with scissors and glued down. But I never really liked the finished product. The sky bugged me and I had painted parts of the sea yellow (yellow sea?) So I decided the time had come to do this piece right, fix that sky and get rid of the yellow.
This piece is very symbolic for me, depicting the frustration I had with the process of immigration for my husband. Frustrated that our marriage and happiness depended on if the paperwork was filled correctly, if we paid the right amount of money and if we had enough documentation.
Its a good thing we crossed our t's and dotted our i's and made it to dry land.

Day 32. Rock Merge for Animation
Tonight I worked on merging my layers of rock for the intro sequence of the animation. Here's a snidge of a sample, don't want to show the whole thing and blow the surprise for the finished piece.

Day 30. Give Peace A Chance
I was still thinking about John Lennon today and his song, Give Peace a chance was still rolling around in my mind like a good mantra will. So today's Change is all about Peace, please lets take a moment to set our minds to coexisting, acknowledge that War is not the answer and let peace be.
Day 29. Awesome Spider Pics
I watched this spider make this incredible web on 10-10-10 and then watched her trap a bug, cover it in webbing and then dissolve it. Fascinating.
I wasn't able to post these on Sunday like I intended to, just ran out of time. But they were taken on Sunday- so I think that counts

Day 28. Relaxing Autumn Walk at Sunset
Today is the anniversary of John Lennon's Birthday. I wanted to celebrate his birthday by making a tribute to his song, Give Peace a chance. But it happens that I am spending the weekend with my family in Michigan and the lure of sweet relaxation kept me from really working on anything. But honestly, I think John Lennon would be ok with that (since Peace begins from within.)
I was at Peace today and that's really what matters. I took two wonderful walks, the first in mid-day-a walk through the woods and the second a walk on the beach at sunset (as is pictured here.) I can't think of a better way to spend the day. Hope you are enjoying autumn too!

Day 26. Knitted while at work...
Had to work overtime at a Neurosurgery Conference tonight. So in-between checking people into the registration, I worked on my knitting. I'm making a dish cloth (actually this is my 2nd dish cloth) so we can stop buying sponges which are expensive and not so great for our environment. Did you know kitchen sponges are made of plastic and originated from oil and contain an environmental danger called Triclosan? If you want to read more, follow this link:
